About Ben

Born in 1989, Ben hails originally from Shropshire in the United Kingdom. The son of now retired trainer Mark Brisbourne, Ben was raised in a racing and training environment as part of the family home.

Having been involved in ponies from a young age, Ben started to take a more serious interest in racing around the age of 16. He was a jockey for a few years and rode his first winner two days after his 17th birthday. He worked for his father for two years while completing a college education in Fishing and Water Management. Ben then worked for National Hunt Champion trainer Nicky Henderson. He was initially looking to pursue a career as a jumps jockey but instead, due to his interest in training horses, naturally fell into the role of assistant trainer.

It was Ben’s passion for flat racing that drove him to make the move to Australia in 2013, where he slowly laid the foundations of his future training career.

Ben worked as Senior Foreman for five years for Lindsay Park at their Euroa base, where he also met his future fiancé Heather. Working alongside David Hayes and Tom Dabernig, he helped to nurture the careers of some of the best horses in Australia and also rode many of the champions that were produced there.

It is Ben’s competitive nature that led him to pursue a training career and he took out a training license in his own right in 2018.

Ben and his team in Wangaratta have consistently produced multiple winners including city class winners from his stable. Most notably he has a knack for being able to turn failing tried horses into not only winners but metro winners. This caught the attention of his peers and, among many other accolades and titles amassed already in his short career, he was awarded in the prestigious Colin Alderson Rising Star Training Award in 2021.
